Seven Ways to Uplift Yourself in Times of Chaos
by Life Coach Marcie Hunt
Often the greatest times of challenge and chaos offer us the opportunity to dig deeper into our inner resources of strength and courage. We learn to build an even firmer foundation of faith. We can also use this time to focus on maintaining a positive outlook on life.
"When you come to the edge of all the light you know and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly."

- I take time each day to count my blessings. This is a wonderful way to stay centered and to increase our feelings of gratitude and joy. By expressing a spirit of gratitude for what we have in our lives, and for the people who are close to us, we increase abundance and love in our daily life. We can bless our home, our family, friends, pets, good health, prosperity, and anything else we desire.
I focus on the good in everyone. In times of war and conflict, we can experience very different views and feelings from others around us. Yet we can take the higher ground in seeing the goodness in each person, regardless of political or religious differences. Consciously thinking about and seeing the light in others helps us to connect with them on a spiritual level, through compassion and respect. As a result of focusing on goodness, through the law of attraction, we actually draw love and respect from those around us as well. We create a greater sense of peace and alignment with others through these conscious actions.
- I let go of scarcity and fearful thoughts. One of the greatest challenges at the present time in our world is to let go of worry, scarcity and fearful thoughts. One way to do this is to meditate with the eyes closed, breathing in peace, and breathing out tension. As I relax, I imagine a cloud. Into this cloud I can send any fears or worries I may have. I watch the cloud as it disappears into the distance. This technique can be found in the guided imagery CD Finding Inner Peace in a Troubled World here: products As I complete this guided meditation, I tell myself mentally or verbally, "I believe in abundance, prosperity and peace, regardless of appearances."
- I open up to receiving new perspectives and opportunities. There are always new opportunities and paths to create a powerful life. Sometimes if we just look at a project or a challenge from a little different angle we see the solution. Writing down ideas that inspire us can generate exciting new plans and a whole new way of doing things. Keeping a journal, even if it is just jotting down fresh ideas, can lead to breakthrough solutions and success.
John had been looking for a new home in Northern California. After searching with his wife for several months, they still hadn’t found a home they loved that was within their price range. John began to use the custom guided imagery tape created for him in our coaching sessions. He saw himself, as if in the present moment, living in a home in a good neighborhood with excellent schools for their son. He imagined putting up art work and placing furniture in each room with his wife’s help. He sensed that the house was spacious and sunny with a large back yard. The following week he received a call from a real estate agent about a condominium in a great neighborhood. When John and his family went to visit, they loved the condominium and many of the other advantages they had not thought about, such as community tennis courts and a swimming pool for condo owners. Although John had originally been looking for a home, by opening up to a new perspective he was able to find everything he and his family desired and at an affordable price. They are now proud new owners, and will be moving in a couple of weeks.
- I listen to my intuition for new ways to use my talents and to create success. Whether I am already working in a career, or whether I am looking for other outlets to express my talents, I let my intuition be my guide.
Just recently, a friend of mine met a new partner to help her manufacture beautiful leather bags that are unique and practical. She realized that although it was frustrating when several manufacturers had not worked out, doors were being closed so she could be guided to the right person to help her. Intuition works in wonderous ways! One uplifting affirmation is "I am being guided to the best outcome for myself and others."
- I create goals and projects with others. Developing synergy with others is so powerful. Whether in a corporate or entrepreneurial atmosphere, it is an art worthy of developing. So much can be accomplished by sharing talents, visions and goals together. Sometimes this can be done by brainstorming about one topic, such as focusing on a particular product and how each person can generate new clients and income. I know of several Master Mind groups where five or six people get together once a month and share business ideas. Each person has a different specialty, such as marketing, sales, project management, etc. This is a creative way to generate energy and to gain new perspectives, especially for entrepreneurial businesses.
- Embrace the qualities of a powerful life: such as joy, imagination, creativity, responsibility, abundance, integrity, love, truth, compassion and peace. One exercise that is really interesting is to pick a quality to focus on, or to strengthen. For one week, I can decide to embrace the quality of joy, for example. Or I may choose the quality of responsibility and to be more pro-active in whatever areas I choose.
MONTHLY AFFIRMATION:
"I remain positive and centered, even when appearances are chaotic."
MONTHLY LIFE TECHNIQUE:
I make a conscious effort this month to stay focused on uplifting thoughts and feelings. I also make a conscious effort to see the good in everyone around me.
