A Sense of Adventure
by Marcie Hunt Power Your Life Coach
May 27th, 1937, was declared Pedestrian Day to
inaugurate the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Donald Bryant, a college sprinter, was the first person
across. Carmen Perez and her sister Minnie were the
first to skate to the other side. Florentine Caligari
was the first person to make it across on stilts. Two
high school girls were the first twins to make it
across the bridge.
A 74 year- old San Franciscan, who had crossed the
Brooklyn Bridge on its opening day in 1883, repeated
his performance across the Golden Gate Bridge. There
were people who tap- danced, walked backward,
played musical instruments and rode unicycles.
What did all of these people have in common? They
each embraced the spirit of adventure.
They weren't afraid to be the first, to use their
imagination, to be a bit eccentric-and to have fun
like a kid- no matter the age.
I was delighted when I looked up the
word "adventurer" in the thesaurus to find these
words: entrepreneur, explorer, charlatan,
globetrotter, hero, heroine, madcap, opportunist,
pioneer, pirate, romantic, speculator, swashbuckler,
traveler and wanderer- among others
Adventure can take many forms, but the important
thing is to express or to develop an adventurous
spirit.
What are some of the qualities of adventure?
Qualities might include inspiration, freedom,
imagination, creativity, joy, taking risks, and opening
up to something new. What words and qualities come
up for you when you think of an adventure?
To get started, you might ask
yourself a few questions, such as the following:
- How can I incorporate a new adventure in
my life at this time?
- Can I plan a trip that will allow me to
experience a different culture, to embrace art, music
or architecture in a country that I haven't yet
explored?
- Is there a sport I have wanted to try, but
have not begun?
- How I can share these new experiences
with someone I love, with family, or with friends?
- Is there something that I have always
wanted to do, and I haven't dared to move forward?
- What gets me excited, inspired, and gets
those creative juices flowing?
- Is there a spiritual adventure I would like to
plan, such as learning meditation, taking a trip to
sacred places, or studying with a spiritual master?
- Are there simple ways that I can begin to
take action, and to perceive my daily life as a joyful
adventure?
- Maybe I need time to relax or to heal. How
can I connect with my inner playfulness-to play, to
laugh and to have fun?
You can send out your intention to the Universal
Spirit to live fully and joyfully in the moment, and to
invite more adventure into your life. See what comes
up during this month, and follow any inspirational
guidance. This guidance can come from your inner
voice, your higher self, or it may appear through
friends, a book, or a surprising and delightful event.
"Life is about joy, which is about alignment,
which is about your choice of thoughts."
Excerpted from Abraham-Hicks Workshops
Perhaps the greatest gift of all is to maintain a sense
of wonder-that life is beautiful and mysterious. We
can always see life as a new adventure, no matter
what events occur. Nurturing our adventurous spirit
is as essential as breathing oxygen, and as simple as
sharing our love with others.
Monthly Affirmation amd Technique
Affirmation for the Month: "I renew my sense of
adventure each day-living fully in the moment."
Technique this month: I incorporate at least one
activity that is new and adventurous for me.
Each day is a doorway to inspiration and joy.
